Thurs 13th Oct Return to Havelock North for the Last Supper

Today we are going back to Havelock North to get packed to move up to Auckland for the last part of our stay in New Zealand. Although it was still grey we headed down to the lake at Rotorua to help walk off our tea from last night! I can imagine that this would be a beautiful place when the sun comes out.
On our journey back we stopped at Okere Falls. We walked through the native rain forest and finally found the silver fern. Once you know what you’re looking for it’s everywhere!

These falls were once part of a power station but that has now disappeared. They kayak/raft down these falls................ Scary!
We travelled onto Lake Taupo hoping the clouds had lifted but unfortunately we still couldn’t see the mountains. We did however spot this lesser known carrot cake…yum

The sun came out as we stopped by another spectacular waterfall.
Back in Havelock North the heavens had opened but that didn’t stop us having our perfect last supper……..fish BBQ.
New Zealand's famous green lipped mussels
 Calamari and scallops
Chalies speciallity dish fish on udon noodles with char su sauce......fantastic
Followed by Robyn’s delicious Xmas cake
Then fuelled by superb wine we danced on the deck.
Tomorrow we move onto to Auckland. We have had a fantastic time with Charlie and Robyn. They have been so much fun. We’ve seen lots of things I’m sure we have missed if we’d been on our own. They seem to know where to find the best wine, cake and seafood. So if you’re ever in the area drop in.

  1. I was beginning to think there was no cake left in NZ, you'd eaten it all!...
