Mon 17thOct West Coast

Ok so now the rugby is almost over and we thought we would take a trip over to the west coast of Auckland. This coast line is very different from the lovely sandy beaches on the east. The west coast is very rocky and black volcanic sand, but great for surfing. When we collected the car at Auckland airport the guy told us to visit Piha beach so off we went. But first we had to get out of the apartment car park. It took a couple of goes before we found the exit!
We drove along some really tight bends through rain forests until we dropped down into the bay.

It was very rugged and as the sky was very grey it looked very dramatic.

There were plenty of people braving the waves..... just not on our photos!
As we walked down to the beach the sun came out and within 10 minutes the outlook had  changed. It was very unspoilt.

We sat and watched just taking in the scenery and the peace and quiet.Eventually we headed home for a fish supper.
