Mon 3rd Oct A day in Hawkes Bay

Today Charlie and Robyn took us on a tour of their home patch. We started with a trip up their local high point called Te Mata. You could see for miles and miles.

Can you believe that people paraglide off here!

Hawkes Bay is renowned for it’s wine making so we decided to drop in on Craggy Range a really posh vineyard, the sort of place that Rod Stewart likes to dine at. Didn’t see him this time.

Talking of lunch we headed towards Napier and stopped at a lovely cafĂ©. Phil and I had sandwiches, Charlie had a pizza and Robyn had ….porridge, yep porridge. Hey she likes a late breakfast!
Next up was a visit to the Opossum shop. Possums are a real problem for New Zealand and they are actively hunted as vermin. Their fur is used for all manner of things especially socks. They had a little display about opossum hunting and true to Kiwi humour I spotted this.
We moved on to down town Napier which was rebuilt after an earthquake in 1931, hence it is full of beautiful Art Deco buildings.
Charlie even has his own restaurant!

Tomorrow we off on a wine tour, yippee.
