High in the sky

Today (Saturday) we went up in a cable car to see the BIG BUDDA on Lantau island. It's still overcast and rain was forecast but we had a brolly (courtesy of the hotel). This was not a journey for those of you who are scared of heights! This is a different side of Hong Kong, green, spacious and less populated.

Just as we arrived the heavens opened but it didn't stop us climbing the steps to say hello to the Budda. There seems to be a bit of a theme on this holdiday with steps.
Afterwards we walked around the Po Lin Monastry/temple. It was beautiful , the colours so deep and vibrant and the gold shone like........erm gold? The whole atmosphere was of calm and peace.

Next a taxi down to a fishing village Tai O (recommended by Sid) which was really quirky. The houses(shacks) are on stilts and are all shapes and sizes. The main street consisted of loads of stalls selling dried fish. Everything was dried, fish heads, bladders, shrimps the lot. The smell !!!!!

Took the bus back to the ferry port (80p), pulic transport is so cheap. We have bought Octopus cards so we don't need to have change but there's 100$ on them so I have visions that we could spend the last day going round and round to use them up!
Decided to have a drink on the waterfront before dinner BIG mistake met up with a lovely Irish guy who was working in Hong Kong for HSBC. Spent 3 hours talking rugby and went to dinner a bit worse for wear!
