Kia Ora from Akaroa

Today we thought we would have a run out to revisit a beautiful spot that I saw when I visited in 1980. It hasn’t changed one iota still stunning.

We wandered along the promenade where the shops and cafes have a real vintage feel.

We popped inside the general store and we were transported back to Arkwright’s Store. They sold everything from ice cream to duck tape and everything in between! As we looked around we spotted a sign that said handles/forks and we immediately began to giggle. We proceeded to re-enact that famous Two Ronnies sketch (four candles/fork handles) and the store owner came over and wanted to show us the fork handles, which set us off again. We left the store quickly before we were taken away!
At the seaside what else can you have for lunch but……fish and chips. This is Blue Cod a favourite amongst the Kiwis and it’s delicious.

After lunch we strolled up to the pier to catch a cruise around the harbour. The sun was out but it was a bit breezy. The water is a sparkling turquoise and so clear.

We did manage to spot some rare white penguins and the Hectors dolphins. Both are rare breeds but too quick and small for my camera but I’ve got them on video. So if you want to see them let me know. As we cruised along the cliff edge we came across a rock formation known as the elephant. Can you see it?
On our journey home we spotted this
Next holiday maybe?
And to end the day a real bush fire in someone’s garden!
Ps when I was a kid Kia Ora was the orange juice you got at the pictures! ( It’s Maori for welcome.)

Tomorrow we drive down to Dunedin to get ready for the Rugby and meet some friends.
